Volunteer Spotlight: Judy Craven, A Pillar of Dance for the Cure

DFC Volunteer Judy Craven

Since the inception of Dance for the Cure, Judy Craven has been an indispensable part of our team. She first got involved when her daughter Courtney was a dancer in the touching "I Believe" lyrical piece, which was performed at community events, and later at Dance for the Cure’s annual fundraiser, Ribbons of Hope. From that moment, Judy became one of the organization's most devoted volunteers, contributing quietly but with a level of dedication that has earned her the title of "unsung hero."

Judy embodies the true spirit of a volunteer—humble, hardworking, and always focused on the greater good. She doesn’t seek the spotlight, but her work has been essential to DFC's success. Whether it’s crafting the most beautiful baskets for our Ribbons of Hope events (check some out below) or ensuring all the fine details are handled, Judy approaches everything with a cool, calm demeanor. She never sweats the small stuff and always keeps the bigger picture in mind, making her a fabulous asset to our team.

One of Judy's standout qualities is her reliability. You can count on her to take on any task with quiet efficiency, and the results will be flawless. Her fellow volunteers admire her for being detail-oriented, yet she manages to balance that with a laid-back approach and sense of humor that makes working with her a joy. As DFC Co-founder Joanne Liscovitz often says, "If Judy says she’ll take care of something, it will get done—and done well."

Over the years, Judy’s contributions have grown, and it’s no exaggeration to say that Ribbons of Hope, our annual fundraiser, wouldn’t be the same without her. From day one, she has been there, ensuring that each event runs smoothly and successfully. Her incredible work ethic and commitment to DFC’s mission are a constant reminder of the power of community-driven volunteerism.

Judy Craven may be a "quiet" volunteer, but her impact is loud and clear. She is an irreplaceable member of the Dance for the Cure family, and we are endlessly grateful for her years of unwavering support.

Here are just a few of Judy's basket creations! Enjoy!
