The University of Delaware Cheer Teams are showing their support for Dance for the Cure (DFC) through a series of initiatives aimed at raising awareness and funds for breast cancer. In preparation for the Football Pink Out game on October 12th, the teams organized a merchandise sale in September, offering shirts and sweatshirts to athletes and parents.
With over 50 athletes combined from the All Girl and Co-Ed teams, the cheer squads came together to promote the cause. Orders were placed online and delivered at the September 28th game, allowing the community to don their pink gear in solidarity. This marks the fourth annual merchandise sale supporting DFC, reflecting a growing tradition within the teams.
For team member Brielle Herbst, the cause is deeply personal. She shared:
"We support DFC because my mom was diagnosed with breast cancer a little over 11 years ago, and it is something no one should ever have to experience. Throughout that time, I have always supported cancer organizations, especially DFC, and decided to bring it to my team in Delaware."
The University of Delaware Cheer Teams' efforts are part of a broader collaboration. Alongside the Bridgewater-Raritan High School cheerleaders and the Somerville High School cheer team—who also participated in Tie the Town Pink—they have collectively raised a donation of $975 for DFC.
These combined efforts highlight the impact that dedicated groups can have when they come together for a common cause. The University of Delaware Cheer Teams continue to inspire others through their commitment and community spirit, making a meaningful difference in the fight against breast cancer.
